Josh Davey and Tom Scriven fell just short of Leicestershire's record 10th-wicket stand in the Rothesay County Championship, Division One, at Trent Bridge on day four.

Nottinghamshire scored 451-8 declared, with Haynes making 159, while Leicestershire replied with 365, where Hull scored 97 and Scriven contributed 54. Nottinghamshire gained 15 points, whereas Leicestershire earned 11 points after the match ended in a draw.

A battling rearguard action by Leicestershire's Tom Scriven and Josh Davey, who formed a crucial 106-run last-wicket partnership, thwarted the title-chasing Nottinghamshire's bid to force a result on the final day of the match.

When the players shook hands on a draw at 16:20 BST, Nottinghamshire was 178-1 in their second innings, having bowled only their spinners to prevent a potential points deduction for a slow over-rate.

Home skipper Haseeb Hameed remained unbeaten on 109, marking his second century of the season. Leicestershire had initially been 201 runs behind after their first innings, and faced with a precarious situation at 259-9, Nottinghamshire was close to enforcing the follow-on.

Inspired by Hull's third-day heroics, Scriven (54) and Davey (49 not out) set a record partnership for this fixture, ensuring Nottinghamshire would have to bat again.

Dillon Pennington claimed 5-49 and debutant Tom Giles took 3-52 for defending champions Nottinghamshire, who dropped to second place in the Division One standings, trailing new leaders Somerset by just four points.

The relegation scrap involves all teams from fifth-placed Glamorgan downwards, with Leicestershire in the bottom two but just seven points behind Yorkshire.

Pennington completed his second five-wicket haul of the season by dismissing Ian Holland, while Giles took his third wicket by bowling Ben Cox leg before.

However, when off-spinner Freddie McCann removed Scriven, Leicestershire had only 43 overs left in the match, making a positive outcome unrealistic.

This partnership was the record for the last wicket by either county in this fixture, surpassing the previous record of 103 set by Sam Staples and Bill Voce for Nottinghamshire in 1933.

It was only due to Hull's incredible 97 as nightwatcher on day three that Leicestershire even had a chance of avoiding the follow-on. Scriven and Davey, inspired by that effort, mounted a strong defense, frustrating Nottinghamshire for almost two and a half hours until Scriven's resistance was finally broken.

The match concluded with an over-rate penalty looming for Nottinghamshire's first innings, leading to their entire second innings being bowled by spin, including from Sheridon Gumbs and Hamza Shaikh, both of whom had not bowled in first-class cricket before.

Despite this, Hameed passed fifty for only the third time in 19 innings and notched his 21st career first-class century with 109 runs off 109 balls, including nine fours and a six. The only casualty while chasing runs was McCann, caught behind off occasional spinner Rishi Patel.
