Yorkshire scored 185 & 82, with Luxton contributing 29 runs and Fisher taking 6-25. Surrey tallied 83 & 187-9, with Blake scoring 43*. Hill ended with 4-52. Surrey (19 pts) beat Yorkshire (3 pts) by one wicket.

Josh Blake and Matt Fisher were the heroes for Surrey in a thrilling one-wicket win against Yorkshire at the Kia Oval. Blake, who finished on 43 not out from 183 balls, had the innings of his cricketing life. Fisher (33) also had a memorable all-round match against his former county.

Facing a challenging chase of 185, Surrey was seemingly slipping to defeat at 115-7 when the unlikely eighth wicket pair added 55 runs in 23 tension-filled overs before Fisher was dismissed, edging a drive at George Hill to third slip. In extraordinary scenes, Auqib Nabi swung Ben Coad for six but was caught at mid-on from the next ball with just two runs needed.

After ten balls without scoring, it was Dan Worrall who sliced Coad away over square cover for the winning boundary. Blake, a 27-year-old reserve wicketkeeper playing in his seventh first-class match, was at the crease for four and a half hours after coming in at number four. He hit five fours and exhibited patience and self-discipline throughout.

Fisher, who took 6-25 as Yorkshire were dismissed for 82, played superbly for 59 balls, with one of his three fours—a stunning cover drive off Jack White—possibly the shot of the low-scoring match.

This 19-point victory moves Surrey just above Yorkshire in the Division One table, raising the stakes for both teams in this gripping contest. Yorkshire's defeat draws them into the relegation battle, while Surrey's loss would have left them in dire trouble.

When play began 45 minutes late due to early morning rain, Surrey made steady progress from their overnight 27 for no wicket, with openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley reaching 42 before Sibley was leg-before to a nip-backer from White.

Sibley, who managed a rare boundary off White followed by Rahul Chahar’s promoted position from tail-end to number three didn’t work as he was bowled for a duck by White.

Burns chipped for 20 before edging Hill to first slip. Ollie Pope shortly entered, impressively scoring six before falling to Coad for a leg-before appeal.

Coad further struck by bowling Ben Foakes before Hill removed Adam Thomas for five off his own bowling. Tom Lawes managed two boundaries off White before edging to third slip.

From 115-7, Blake was left to bat with Surrey's tail, while Fisher determinedly supported him. After needing a concussion test when hit by a short ball from Hill, Fisher displayed impressive footwork before his heartbreaking dismissal. Nabi struck a boundary followed by Blake guiding White to third man, eventually taking Surrey to the victory at 187-9 from the second ball of the 73rd over. The dressing room celebrations revealed how much the win meant to the team.
